PHYSICS SYLLABUS

"Physics is the science of matter and its motion—the science that deals with concepts such as force, energy, mass, and charge.

As an experimental science, its goal is to understand the natural world.

In one form or another, physics is one of the oldest academic disciplines; through its modern subfield of astronomy, it may be the oldest of all."

OVERVIEW

This introductory physics class focuses on what is considered classical physics. It can be viewed as the application of many of the math concepts you learn in your Integrated Math 2 and 3 classes. When math students ask, "when will I ever use this?" The answer is often, "in your physics class."

The topics we will cover in this class are:

  • Motion in One Dimension

  • Motion in Two Dimensions

  • Forces

  • Circular Motion

  • Gravitation

  • Energy and Work

  • Momentum and Impulse

  • Harmonic Motion and Waves

  • Electricity

TEXTBOOK and SUPPLIES

The textbook we will use in this class is available for pick up at OHHS. I will also post Pdf versions of the text as we cover material.

Students will need access to the internet and basic computer skills (Zoom, G-Suite Apps, Navigating), paper, pencil, and color pencils for this class. If you are unable to get these supplies please contact me early and we will work together to find a way for you to be successful.

GRADING

The grading in my class is very simple. I use a standard grading system. What that simply means is that a point is a point. Students will be graded on assignments ranging from exams to homework to participation, etc. Failure to complete any assignment will have a negative effect on your grade. It means that you CANNOT sit back, do no Homework, pass all of the tests and do well in my class. I want you to work hard and a good grade will be your reward!

A 90% - 100%

B 80%-89%

C 70%-79%

D 60%-69%

F 59% and below
